MountainsandcitiesSo relatable and eye-openingListening to “Hello, Freedom Man” was the first time I’ve ever heard anyone speak about what the struggles are being Vietnamese-American and wanting more! As an Asian-American, this podcast has been so eye-opening and relatable. Keep up the good work, folks!

ExdoddsSelf Evident- compellingSelf Evident is a good vehicle for Asian Americans to tell their stories. It is very compelling for me to listen to as a non-Asian American. I have been completely engrossed listening to every episode. There's a lot I didn't know.

merkymerkHelped me understand myselfSelf Evident helped me explore parts of my Asian American identity that I’ve thought about for years but didn’t know how to contextualize/didn’t think about until listening to the episodes. I’m Vietnamese American and I loved moments that talked specifically about my diaspora of people. I also loved how many different kinds of Asian communities were represented (South East Asian, South Asian, Pacific Islander & more). I loved how the producers incorporated listener audio as well as sounding like really people! It’s about time we had a show dedicated to Asian Americans who aren’t celebrities and telling their stories honestly and beautifully. ❤️ 10/10 would recommend!

padaekBLove the nuances!!!Beautifully nuanced podcast about Asian American stories! Love that it not only brings folx to think about identity politics— but gives a platform to see Asians and listen to Asians be a part of political movements such as stopping deportation! Thanks for working diligently on these important narratives🙏🏽🙏🏽!

justinerae51Excellent show, raises the barThoughtfully approached, well-produced, leaves room for listener to come to own conclusions, or no conclusion at all. Gives us all permission to meander, reckon with, and feel whatever we do. Cathy, Julia, and James are sharp, but accessible, and right there with us through it all. I’ve especially loved hearing from the different Asian American perspectives, many who represent communities I’m not so familiar with e.g the Indo-Guyanese culture and also the insider/outsider experience of a Black presenting half Japanese woman. I’m learning a lot, and am looking forward to more goodness! Thank you for making this show.

eka610Rigorous, community-driven journalism -- with soul!I've been waiting for such a podcast for years. Goodness does Self-Evident deliver! Connecting dots and arriving at real moments of revelation. The first season doesn't shy away from big topics -- identity politics, racism, generational trauma -- but runs straight at them with microphones on, curious and critical. Keep up the great work team.

O.BondLong overdue this brilliant series' foci on a major populousLong overdue is this excellent series' foci on a major populous, whose stories are a rich and complex part of the American story, ideals and vision. Thoroughly enjoyed the first 5 episodes, shared with as many friends as possible to galvanize more conversations and awareness and greatly look forward to this podcast's evolution.

not another model minorityit's not just another talk show! The show goes DEEP and really tells a story every time (even when it feels a little more like a conversation). I didn't know how much I need something like this until I heard it, and now I'm just searching for other show and subscribed to like 6 other Asian American podcasts that I never heard of!

a. m. ngoThoughtful, in-depth reportingHeard about this podcast through a listserv and was impressed by the work this team has done to get the show off the ground. I’ve only heard the first episode, but the reporting was well-rounded, showing all sides of a conflict that took place close to my neighborhood. Even the show notes have extensive links and info! Excited to hear more!

toohsiehThoughtful commentary and provoking storiesI'm so happy that Self Evident, hosted by Cathy Erway (of The Food of Taiwan fame, among other things) has joined Asian Americana, They Call Us Bruce and other podcasts in discussing issues important to Asian Americans. Erway, as always, asks all the right questions about all the right stories—not content to, for example, just focus on Asian Americans protesting homelessness, but also look at how problematic it may be for a once-excluded group to now do the excluding. And thankfully, Self Evident seems intent on exploring stories beyond those of East Asian Americans, who are so often the default demographic "Asian American" media caters to. Self Evident is just getting started, and I can't wait for more. I'd subscribe twice if I could.
