jh_77Highly Professional podcastThis podcast is extremely high quality and reflects significant care and effort. Fr. Pearson does an excellent job explaining why the New Testament is apostolic in its origins. My only concern is that he consistently presents Anglo-Catholic views as the Anglican tradition. Rather, the Anglican tradition is best expressed in the Anglican formularies (1662 Book of Common Prayer, the Articles of Religion/Thirty-Nine Articles, the Book of Homilies, and Ordinal). These documents are clearly Reformed/Protestant and contradict many of the statements he broadly makes as Anglican tradition.

TreeScienceA Critique of the Reconciability between Science and ReligionOverview: This podcast episode attempts to reconcile Christianity with Science. Science is the most accurate worldview, so it should be taken most literally OVER religious views. Religious views are inherently subjective while science is inherently objective. One should not think about science and then reconfigure their religion around that. When what is said for instance in the Bible directly contradicts what science has objectively proven, it is justified to see this as a reason to reject religion. I do believe that faith is NOT mutually exclusive from science, but taking religion too seriously and actively changing what the texts say or interpret its meaning due to agree with what science says is another good reason to doubt religion. In addition, there is a big focus of emotion in every religion, and the idea of good and evil. Considering that emotions are just chemicals released by your brain, and that thoughts are just neurons firing, there is no such thing as objective good and evil. The problem with this specific podcast is that it cherry-picks examples to further its point, while not discussing this idea that thoughts are brain cells firing and emotions just chemicals. Next, let’s evaluate the idea of god. The podcaster goes on a rant about how science and religion live in two different realities, but if science theoretically finds a complete theory of the universe, and discovers everything, then where is the room for a supreme infinite god? There is no such thing as scientific proof to religion, and as science is the CORRECT and objective way of viewing the universe, there is no reconcilable way of viewing science with religion. Finally, let us think about the very nature of the universe. The computer I am typing this review on is made out of molecules, and further down atoms, and further then that elementary particles all interacting together to create every single moment in reality. Because reality is just at its core subatomic particles reacting with each other, then the thought, the idea of god is ingrained in the matter and imprinted on the energy that is in the universe. Where is there room for spirituality in a universe filled with cold hard matter. Note that these are my personal views. If you disagree your opinions are VALID, but I do not think that this podcast covered this topic in a productive or meaningful way. Thank you for reading!

FeliciaVGaddisLove this Podcast!Rev. Bertie Pearson in this podcast has clarified 2 really important issues that have concerned me throughout my christian journey. Being raised Roman Catholic and going to a charismatic, non-denominational church in my 20’s and 30’s ,I have had a lot of charismatics ask me about praying to saints and episode 32 cleared that right up. Episode 30 on the Council of Chalcedon cleared up my other concern on the nature of Christ. He is both fully God and fully human. How that works is a mystery, no need to break it down. Now in my 50’s I am so happy to be a part of the Anglican Communion, where I can get answers to questions that I’ve had for years. Thank you Bertie Pearson!

WinscottPatarkusThis is amazing, listen to itThis podcast is excellent, just what I needed. It is good for the soul. It helps you separate out all of those conceptions of God that society has added over the last two thousand years and get back to the true roots, God and Jesus as they were known in the early days of the church. It is informative, compelling, and so different than what most people expect.

D_NelsonFascinating podcast about early ChristianityThis podcast is excellent. Bertie recounts many of the major events that were formative for Christianity. He does so in an engaging way, finding nuance, humor, and giving the listener a glance into the many fascinating twists and turns throughout history. I found myself resonating with the people and times. He has great enthusiasm for the subject and the heart of a scholar. Enjoy being informed and entertained as you listen.

arts21Excellent Podcast! This podcast is fantastic, not only is the information presented well, but it's entertaining to listen to, and the sound quality is top notch! I find myself learning new things about the origins of Christianity in every episode. Father Bertie knows this subject well, and as one of the other reviewers said he also gives plenty of references to books to read more if you are interested in particular topic. Highly Recommended!

JaunSiRefreshingI can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy this podcast. The wealth of information and perspective is presented with such careful precision you cannot help but delight in each episode. I love this podcast so much and I’m not sure if it’s strictly the content or it’s delivery... both are superb! So much is packed into each episode that I actually delighted to go back and give it a second listen. My harshest critique is that I have to wait a week until the next episode! I’ve shared this with multiple friends and I love the conversations it’s sparked. Oh oh! Lastly, the material always leaves me interested in diving deeper and there are always fantastic book recommendations (A wonderful side effect of a host being so well read). I highly recommend this podcast. To listeners of all levels. It’s widely accessible and I hope more people tune in!!
